  8.  
  9.           This file contains a brief listing of new features and other
  10.           changes in PC-Vault 4.5 and 4.6 that have been added or changed
  11.           since version 4.4w.  Enhancements which apply only to PC-Vault
  12.           Plus are listed at the end of this file.  If you are not already
  13.           familiar with version 4.4w or later, please skip this file and
  14.           read your Administrator's manual.

  17.                     New In PC-Vault and PC-Vault Plus Version 4.5
  18.            
  19.           The implementation of Maximum Floppy Boot Protection is
  20.           completely new and uses totally different techniques from those
  21.           used in prior versions.  It will be much more secure against a
  22.           hacker who is trying to break in.  In addition, we expect it will
  23.           be more compatible with today's variety of disks, controllers,
  24.           and software.    
  25.            
  26.           Substantially improved compatibility with OnTrack's Disk Manager. 
  27.  
  28.           Password aging and reuse can be selected on a per user basis. 
  29.           Except on XTs, use of Password Aging no longer requires the
  30.           PC-VAULT/A statement in AUTOEXEC.BAT.

  32.           You can choose what is displayed during password definition.
  33.  
  34.           All writes to the master boot record are prohibited.
  35.            
  36.           The administrator can prohibit users from changing the system
  37.           date and time.
  38.            
  39.           HelpUser can now be used to grant either Administrator, or User 1
  40.           access to a PC.

  42.           WHO /L will display the name of the current user and the date and
  43.           time of the user's previous logon.

  45.           WHO /E will cause an environment variable to be defined:
  46.           PCVU=username. This is very useful in batch files.  Example:

  49.           The number of users in addition to the administrator has been
  50.           increased to 12.

  52.           The LogOff, PcvCrypt, and Wipe utilities have been added.

  54.           It is no longer necessary to use the special display blanking

  57.           The Windows 32 bit disk driver (also known as FastDisk and
  58.           WDCTRL) will now load and work correctly.

  65.           A comment may be placed in the CONFIG.SYS file prior to
  66.           installing PC-Vault, which will cause PC-Vault to place its
  67.           DEVICE statement on the line following the comment and format it
  68.           correctly for the memory manager you are using.
  69.            
  70.           If a virus invades your master boot record or DOS boot sector or
  71.           either is "trashed", PC-Vault will recognize the condition and
  72.           ask if you would like for PC-Vault to rebuild it for you.

  74.           If the administrator states that the person installing PC-Vault
  75.           is to be the administrator (See PC-Vault /P in your manual), he
  76.           may also require that the administrator password be entered
  77.           before PC-Vault will install.  This will prevent unauthorized
  78.           persons from installing PC-Vault, and ensure that the installer
  79.           knows the administrator password.

  81.           The copy of PC-VAULT.EXE to be modified during PC-Vault pre-
  82.           installation may reside in any drive/directory.

  85.           New parameters have been added to the EXEC program that increase
  86.           the administrator's control over what a user is allowed to
  87.           execute.

  89.           A new parameter has been added to SET-TIME which returns the auto
  90.           LunchBreak time to the time selected from the PC-Vault main menu.

  97.           Password expiration can be set on a per user basis.  If a user's
  98.           passwords are set to expire, they will automatically become
  99.           expired when they are changed by the administrator.  This forces
  100.           a user to change his/her password the first time they use one
  101.           selected by their administrator.

  103.           The administrator can prevent the user from changing his password
  104.           when it expires.  This capability is provided to support such
  105.           activities as software rental, or ensuring return of a notebook
  106.           computer.

  108.           The Hot-Key can now be defined during pre-installation.

  110.           WHO /L also tells the number of days until the current user's
  111.           password expires.

  113.           On installation, PC-Vault will insert a DEVICE statement for each
  114.           REM CLEANDSK.DRV HERE statement in your CONFIG.SYS.  This
  115.           provides support for DOS 6.0 multiple section CONFIG.SYS files.

  123.           A new line on the Directory Access Control screen allows the
  124.           administrator to control each user's permissions to newly created
  125.           level 1 sub-directories.
  126.            
  127.           Execute access is both necessary and sufficient to execute
  128.           programs under Windows (this is a bug fix). 
  129.            
  130.           The log file, ACCESS.SYS, is now locked and encrypted.  FLUSHLOG
  131.           now has a /U switch which unlocks the log file.  The LOG utility
  132.           (LOG.EXE) will automatically decrypt the log.
  133.  
  134.           The global .EXE/.COM access control has been replaced with
  135.           control for each root & 1st level directory.  (See the PC-Vault
  136.           Plus main menu's D option.) 
  137.            
  138.           Directory permissions will be remembered across removal and
  139.           subsequent re-installation.

  141.           Directory permissions changes are effective immediately.

  143.           Changes in file accesses to be logged are effective immediately.

  148.           Permissions for newly created 1st level subdirectories can be
  149.           explicitly defined.

  151.           Users' access to serial and parallel ports can now be controlled
  152.           by the administrator.

  154.           Writes to the DOS boot sector and the Master boot record are
  155.           prohibited.  Either can be rebuilt by PC-Vault if it becomes
  156.           altered.

  158.           More than two floppy drives are now supported.
